Zheden Mountain

Zheden – a medium-high mountain massif in northwestern Macedonia. The mountain stretches between the Skopje Valley in the east and the Pologka Valley in the west. To the north and northeast it is separated by an arch of the Vardar River from the branches of Shar Planina and Skopska Crna Gora; from the southeast with Bojansko and Kopanicko Pole – parts of the Skopje Valley, and from the south is the pregraben valley of Tetovska Suvodolica. Mount Žeden stretches in a southwest-northeast direction and occupies a total area of ​​109 km2. The ridge is rounded and several peaks rise from it, the highest of which is Vodeni Kamen (1,264 m).

There is a lot of mountain tea on Žeden, which the people from the villages around Žeden call “Žeden tea”. The mountain does not have many trees and there is no water, as the name of Mount Zheden suggests – “without water”. Mount Žeden has two caves, Dona Duka and Bojanska Peshtera. The mountain has fauna such as: rabbit, wolf and other animals.

Mount Žeden has 4 peaks: Vodeni Κamen (1,264 meters), Žeden Peak (1,225 meters), Visoká (1,209) and Ushayna (1,118).

Golem Žeden is in the northern part of the mountain and can be climbed from the villages of Рашче and Радуша, it has a mountain climate with a lot of snow in winter. The peak of Žeden is in the central part of the Žeden mountain and can be climbed from Kopanica and from Kopance, it has a continental climate with a lot of rain and a lot of snow in winter. It is the peak in the south of Mount Žeden and can be climbed from Bojane, it has a continental climate with more rain and snow in winter. Ushayna is in the south of Mount Žeden and can be climbed from Bojane, it has a Mediterranean to continental climate with less precipitation than the other two peaks of Žeden.
