Kozjak mountain (Kozjachija) rises between the Pčinja river valley to the north and west, Kriva Reka to the south and its tributaries: Mala Reka and Bistrica to the east. The mountain ridge, which is about 15 km long, has an arc stretching so that from the initial west-east direction, it gradually turns to the south.
For the most part, Kozjak is composed of old Precambrian and Paleozoic crystalline rocks. The southern part of the mountain is built of volcanic rocks, mostly andesites. In a relief view, it represents a mountain of a massive type, bounded by faults. The higher parts represent old plains with a height of 800-1000 m. The tops are low and rounded. The highest peak is Peren with 1326 m.
Under the influence of the human factor, most of the mountain is exposed, which is why strong erosion processes are represented. That is why most of the watercourses on the Kozjak mountain have a torrential character and are without water during the summer. Strong erosion processes, bareness and waterlessness are the reason why Kozjak is an almost completely displaced area. In the southern part of Mount Kozjak, which is built of volcanic rocks, on the main flattened mountain ridge, there is a natural lake of volcanic origin, Mokro Ezero.
