Debar Lake or Shpilje – an artificial lake in the western part of Macedonia, south of Debar at the place where the river Radika flows into the river Crn Drim near the locality Shpilski Most. It is located near the Macedonian-Albanian border. It has an area of 13.2 km2, 92 m depth and an altitude of 580 m. It is used as an accumulation for HEC Shpilje.
The lake was created by raising a dam to a height of 102 m, which was built in the period from 1966 to 1968. The reservoir was completed and filled with water in 1969.
Lake Debar is the richest lake with water of all artificial lakes in Macedonia. The total volume of the reservoir is 520 million m3, and the useful volume is 223 million m3 of water.
The temperature of the lake water is around 14.4 ° С, the minimum drops to 3.0 ° С and the maximum to 23.9 ° С. The transparency of the water ranges from 4.4 m in the middle, to 2.5 m in the coast.
Not far from the eastern shore of the lake is the Debar Island, located about 1 km northwest of the village of Pralenik.
