Slivnica Monastery or “Nativity of Presv. Bogorodica” – a medieval monastery in the Lower Prespa village of Slivnica. The complex is located 3 kilometers from the village of the same name, on the slopes of Baba Mountain. The monastery church “Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary” was built and painted in 1607. Dr. Donka Bardzieva-Trajkovska published a book about the monastery.

The monastery is located 3 kilometers from the village of Slivnica in the dense deciduous forest on a steep and deeply incised valley on the western slope of Mount Baba, high above the eastern shore of Lake Prespa. The monastery was built in 1607, and according to the description, it was built in three phases, from 1607, from 1612 and mainly in 1645. The painting in the temple, as well as the wooden iconostasis with the throne icons, the royal doors and the large cross, originate from that period.

100 years ago, a huge pine forest spread around the monastery, which burned down in a fire. Within the monastery there are lodgings used by the inhabitants of Prespa. The inns were built at the end of the 17th century and were burned down twice. The reconstruction of this medieval monastery began in 1996. Now in the monastery yard there are 20 hostels with 90 beds. During the summer, believers come to the lodgings and spend the night here. The dining room and the kitchen have been renovated, and a sanitary unit has been built.

In the courtyard of the monastery there is a fountain which is believed to be holy and healing water. It is believed that the water that springs from under the monastery church cures diseases and helps childbirth. According to the testimonies of dozens of people, the Virgin appeared several times around the monastery complex. The first testimonies appear from the time of the First World War, while the last one was recorded in 2006.
