Near the village of Nov Istevnik there are notable earthen pyramids, called “Kukulje“. About 50 earthen pyramids with a height of up to 15 m have been built in this area, with a length of about 200 m (in the NNW direction) and a width of 30-50 m, at the foot of a larger natural hill. The most prominent and oldest pyramids, which are located closer to the valley floor of Istevnički Potok, are already completely formed. Above them are younger pyramids, still connected by sedimentary ridges that together build complex forms that resemble castles and domes. Even higher, the valley side is intersected by multiple parallel, deep erosional gullies, separated by ridges of Neogene sands and clays. These ridges, with erosion and washing from atmospheric precipitation, gradually thin, break and take on the appearance of earthen pyramids. Thus, the process moves up the slopes, which means that the creation of the pyramids is still active today.
