St. Gavril Lesnovski or Lesnovo monastery – monastery in the village. Lesnovo, Probishtipsko. The main church is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. There is an opinion that the monastery was built when St. Gavril Lesnovski became a monk or after his death, when the cult of the ascetic life developed (as stated in his short life from 1330). The time in which Gavril Lesnovski lived has not been precisely determined. There is an opinion that it should be sought in the 11th century, and hence the conclusion that the monastery was built in the second half of the 11th century, when in the end north of Bregalnica the cult of the desert dwellers, including Saint Father Gavril, was strongly developed.
The establishment of the monastery is connected with the life of the hermit Gavril Lesnovski. For St. There are several lives (hageographies) of Gabriel. The first is quite short and was written around 1330. In the extensive life of the hermit from 1868, it is stated that during his life, the monastery existed and he became a monk there.
According to one of the biographies in the middle of the XI century in the village. The four great hermits, saints – Jovan Rilski, Prokhor Pczinski, Joakim Osogovski and Gavril Lesnovski lived in Lesnovo. The four saints, or as the people call them, the four spiritual brothers, lived for almost 30 years in fasting, prayer and a strict life of service in a cave in the then very densely wooded Lesnovo mountain near the village of Lesnovo. After reaching spiritual maturity, each of them felt the need to continue their own spiritual mission individually. They went to four different countries and built monasteries, while Gavril Lesnovski stayed in the village. Lesnovo and built (founded) the Lesnovo monastery.
The monastery of St. Gavril Lesnovski is one of the most significant and beautiful medieval and sacral monuments of culture, not only in the Republic of Macedonia but also beyond. Not only is it a great mystery with its wealth and contents of the iconostasis and fresco painting, but it is also known for its power to heal sick people. The villagers believe that Saint Gavril Lesnovski protects them, their village and the monastery and that his spirit is present. They also believe that it was not by chance that the village and the monastery were created here, and they proudly point out that this area is biblical.
The mass visit to the monastery is during the holidays of September 21 and January 28, when a large number of pilgrims, visitors and guests come.
