Dren + Selechka Mountain

Dren Mountain (or just Dren) – a medium-high mountain in Macedonia that stretches between the Mariovo Valley to the south and the Raec Valley to the northeast. With its extension, the mountain Dren encloses Prilep Field and Pelagonija from the east and the city of Prilep itself, in the south its slopes enclose the deep valley of Crna Reka in Mariovo, from the west it encloses the valley of Raecka Reka. In the north, the mountain Dren through the pass Pletvar is connected with the mountain Babuna, in the south through the road to the village Bonche and the former village Pisokal, the mountain is connected with Selecka Mountain. In fact, it is a continuation of Selecka Mountain with the direction of extension SE-NW. The highest peak is Livada (1,663 m) in the west, Four Beeches (1,476 m) and the Three Straits (1,476 m) in the east. From the passes, the biggest role is played by the Ligurosa pass (1,152 m), which connects Raec with Mariovo. Apart from the direction of extension, Dren Planina differs from Selechka Mountain in the geological composition which here mainly consists of rocks from the marble series, for which on both slopes there are the most famous marble sites and excavations such as Sivec and the villages Belovodica in the north and Vep. on the southern slope. Due to the marble and partly limestone composition of the soil, there are Gulabinka, Pesti and Podot caves on the southern slope, and underground in the mountain there are large amounts of water that flow into the strong Gudjakovski Izvori under the southern slope on the left bank of Crna and the so-called Marble Lake near Belovodica on the northern slope. The deciduous forests of oak, elm, dogwood, less often beech and poplar are present from the flora, and on significantly larger areas, especially on the southern slopes in the valley of Crna Reka, the evergreen pine forest is present.

Selechka Mountain – a medium-high mountain located south of the city of Prilep between Pelagonija in the west and Mariovo in the east. The highest peak is High with 1,471 m. Selecka Mountain has a meridian direction extending from north to south, each of which starts north of the Skala pass and ends south in the Black River valley. It is about 30 km long and the width is between 8 and 10 km. It starts separating the Dren mountain to the north from where the ridge continues in a south direction through the peaks Paniciste (1421 m) and Dve Steni (1473 m) to the Sliva pass through which passes the regional asphalt road to Mariovo and Vitolishte. At this place to the west a small branch is dropped, ie the ridge Veslec 1322 meters high. It continues in a southern direction above the village Bonche to the ridge Grncarica from where it climbs to the highest peak Visoka, from where it continues south through the ridge and the peaks Bobishte (1266 m), Smech or Srnec (1303 m) .), Gavran (1412 m) and Jaula (1431 m) all the way to the entrance of Crna Reka in the Skochivir Gorge in Mariovo. The highest peak in the northern part is High (1471 meters above sea level), and in the southern part is Caula (1434 meters above sea level). From the passes along Skal, through which the northern part of Pelagonija is connected with Mariovo, the Preslap pass (936 meters above sea level) through which the Bitola Field communicates with Mariovo is also important.
