Salakovski Lakes – two glacial lakes on the mountain massif Mokra (Jakupica) in Macedonia.

It is about two lakes that are the only permanent lakes on this massif. They are called Salakovski Ezera (Big and Small Salakovski Lake), and they are located in the Ezerinja locality in the northeastern parts of Karadžica, i.e. under Ubava peak, 2353 meters high.

The lakes are located at an altitude of 2,178 meters in a common cirque, which was created during the Pleistocene glaciation. Namely, a cirque is a wide depression in the form of an amphitheater, which is created by the action of the glaciation process, that is, by the action of the ice masses, which move and deepen the terrain. In this case, the cirque was created by the movement of the Salakov glacier. This cirque is surrounded by the ridge Gorni Pepeljak from the northwest, Ubava from the south and Salakovska Planina from the east. In the past, the Salakovci cirque was filled with water from a glacial lake, but since the outlet of this lake lies on erosive moraine materials, it gradually shrinks and the lake loses its water. Today, only the deepest parts of that former lake (Big and Small Salakovsko Lake) remain. Salakovski Lakes can be reached from several settlements: Crn Vrv from the north, Aldinci (Mountain Hut Karadžica) from the northeast, Taževo and Belica (Poreče) from the southwest and Patishka Reka from the northwest.

The large Salakovsko Lake covers an area of 1340 m2, while the Small Salakovsko Lake covers an area of 850 m2. The greatest depth of the large lake is 2.35 meters, while the Small Lake has the greatest depth of 2.5 meters. During the studies of the lake basin, it was established that in the distant past, the two lakes were joined and represented one large lake.

In the writings of Gjorche Petrov, there is a legend that says that when King Marko wanted water for his monastery (Markov Monastery) located at the foot of Crn Vrv, he broke through the rock that encloses the large lake on one side and let water flow from it. from which Markova River was created.
