Lokvica – a village in the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, in the district of Poreče, in the vicinity of the town of Makedonski Brod.

The village is located in the Poreče district, on the eastern side of the territory of the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, whose atar rises on the Dautica mountain. More specifically, the village of Lokvica is located on the eastern edge of the river basin, and lies at the foot of a 900-meter-high section of the former prehistoric lake shore. The village of Lokvica itself is located in a small flat valley surrounded by high mountain ridges on all sides, namely Osoj (1285 m.a.s.l.) on Dautica in the east, Laishta (889 m.a.s.l.) in the south, Golinje (920 m.a.s.l.). m.) and Orlov Kamen (914 m.) to the west and Rupishte (808 m.) to the north. Directly north of the village are the cultivated fields, and immediately to the southeast above the village itself through Bogdanov Dol is the paved pipeline route of the water supply, which through the village of Jasika ends at the place Dolga Rupa and the hunter’s pond on the top of the ridge 1130 meters high in the direction above Krapa.

The village is hilly, at an altitude of 800 meters. It is 11 kilometers away from the town of Makedonski Brod. An asphalt road leads to the village, which bifurcates at the Peshna cave. The nearest neighboring villages are Krapa in the southeast and Vir in the north, and Lokvica is connected to the Starovci neighborhood in the village of Creshnevo in the north through a dirt and partly cobbled pedestrian road.

The Peshna cave is located six kilometers from Makedonski Brod. According to speleologists, Peshna is a cave with the largest opening in the Balkans – the opening is 40 meters high and 56 meters wide. The length of the cave is 124 meters. Swallows nest in the cave, and bats also live in it. The fact that the New York Times compared it to “Helms Deep” from “The Lord of the Rings” speaks of the beauty of the cave.

From the extreme northern part of the cave, after heavy rains and melting of the snow, a strong heat emerges, which completely dries up in the dry periods of the year. According to the local population, the water sinks from the village of Krapa, which is located at a higher altitude, and which forms several lakes and waterfalls in the “largest cave system in our country”, which is supposed to be as long as ten kilometers.

At the entrance of the cave there is a medieval fortress and remains of a mill. The remains of the fortress in the cave are associated with the “Devini Kuli” locality, which is visible from inside the cave. According to local legends, the sisters of King Marko lived on both fortresses. Peshna is registered as a site from the Late Antiquity period in Macedonia. Before the entrance of the cave itself, an ancient tomb was discovered.
