Janche – a village in the Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostushe, one of the villages in the Dolna Reka area, in the vicinity of the town of Debar. Janche is located in the area of Dolna Reka, in the southwestern part of the territory of the Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostuše, immediately on the left side of the Radika river and on the Gostivar – Debar road. The village is located on the southwestern slope of the mountain Bistra. The village is mountainous, located at an altitude of 760 meters.

The village has a compact type and the houses are located along the road. The houses themselves are arranged in steps, which is why it looks like an eagle’s nest in the middle of the mountain peaks.

According to legend, the first inhabitant of the village was a man named Jane, after whom it was believed that the village was named.

There are a small number of written documents about this village, from which it can be seen that Janche was located in the locality of Janechki Livadi, hidden due to frequent bandit robberies. Later, the village moved closer to the road for easier communication with other settlements.

The village was first mentioned in the Ottoman census books from 1467, when there was only 1 Christian family (Gjerg Iliević). Then it is mentioned in 1536/39 with 6 families and in 1583 with 8 families and 3 singles.

Janche is one of the oldest settlements in the Mijak region from more than five centuries ago in the lower river region, which is mentioned even in the documentation of the Istanbul archive.
