The Babuna river springs on the southeast side of Mokra Mountain below the Solunska Glava peak and flows between the Jakupica mountain massif on the left and the Babuna mountain on the right. From its springs where the beautiful waterfalls are located in the area above the village Nezhilovo flows in a southern direction to Bogomila. From here it flows in a southeast direction to the village of Omorani from where it turns northeast all the way to the confluence with the Vardar. Babuna has a picturesque gorge head, partly gorge riverbed, small waterfalls in its upper course. It feeds on water from a large number of tributaries. In its course, 53 km long, it receives several tributaries, the most important of which are the right tributaries: Brezica, Izvorska and Vojnicka River. Due to the excellent purity of the water in Babuna live many species of fish such as trout, scallops, watercress, as well as river crabs. In the lower course the river passes through the gorge Peshti, where the river ponds are quite visited by swimmers during the summer.

Route 1: Village Nezhilovo – Babuna River Springs (6.2 km)

This is the classic tour that starts from the fish restaurant in the village of Nezhilovo. At the fish restaurant, the asphalt road ends and a dirt road begins, which is in good condition but still intended for off-road vehicles (although passenger vehicles are often seen) and leads to the Mountain Hut Cheples and is a total of 11 km. From the village Nezhilovo to the path that divides to the springs of Babuna river, there is a total of 6.2 km relatively easy walk through the dense forest of Mokra Mountain. Starting at the information board there is a hiking trail, 1.5 – 2 km long, which is clearly marked and excellently secured with steel climbing cables and wide earthen stairs with wooden curbs. Our recommendation is first to go to the end of the path to the source of Babuna, and then on the way back to visit the waterfall that is separated from the path for a few hundred meters.

Route 2: Mountain Hut Cheples – Babuna River Springs (4.5 km)

If you are in the Mountain Hut Cheples  for overnight stay or climbing on Solunska Glava peak or Perchulica peak, in that case on the way back to the village Nezhilovo, a visit to the Babuna spring is mandatory. This variant is shorter and is 4.5 km to the mountaineering trail that divides towards the springs, and of course an additional 1.5 – 2 km to the springs themselves and the Babuna waterfall.

And another recommendation for the end: the trout in the fish restaurant of the village Nezhilovo is great! Don’t forget to book a table in advance.
