Map with all trails

In this post we present two super easy trails adapted for all ages (kids, grandparents – anyone can take it). Although both trails have become popular lately, they are still quite unvisited and if you enjoy hiking alone in the mountains with your family, the trails are ideal for you. The next benefit is the sun. Since both trails are on the southern slopes of Vodno, if the weather is nice, expect sun all day. And the last benefit: parking is free (keep this information to yourself, otherwise zone parking is inevitable).

The arrival is through Sopishte (for all those who leave from Skopje) and on the main road you turn to the right next to the sign that marks “Gorno Sonje”. The road is paved and in good condition. After you separate from the main road to the monastery “St. Nikola – Leten”, it is advisable to park your vehicles 100-200 meters in front of the church, because the parking spaces around the church are limited.

Both trails start from the same place (zoom-in / zoom out on the map to the right). The trail that folds to the right is shorter, but no less beautiful and picturesque. After the short hill you immediately enter the beautiful evergreen forest (curtesy of our grandparents who more than 50 years ago decided to afforest Vodno). Shortly in front of the peak, the trail emerges from the forest and intersects with a ridge called the Pipeline – be careful with children: this part is quite dangerous. Shortly afterwards, the trail merges with the main trail (Vodno – Bunkeri – Matka).

The longer path, which folds to the left, is our favorite. Offers a beautiful walk through the evergreen and low-stemmed forest. It is slightly longer, but for us – the most beautiful.

Shortly before you reach the cross, there are several shelters, wooden tables and benches where you can enjoy a well-deserved vacation with a beautiful view of Jakupica (Mokra Mountain) and Shar Mountain.

The shorter path is partially marked, but the markings are old and difficult to notice. We did not notice any markings on the longer path. Tip: If you are new to navigation, use Navigation – More information and navigation help in Tips.

Both trails are great for any time of year, but you still have to plan enough time to return in order to avoid overnight movement on the mountain.
